Just a quick post to update Alex's potty training progress, as he seems to have taken some significant steps forward this week.
It started when he woke up one night in the middle of the night, crying for- not Mommy, not to come in Mommy and Daddy's bed (as had been the habit for quite some days until we offered stars on his star chart and one of Daddy's model cars as incentive...now he just sleeps in Ari's room) but for his underwear. Yes, Mommy thought maybe she wasn't hearing him correctly in her sleep-induced stupor, but Alex was, in fact, crying for his underwear. This was rather random, as Alex hasn't seen or worn the underwear Mommy bought him for months. But in an attempt to quiet him down, Mommy pulled a pair of underwear out of his drawer and asked him if that was what he wanted. He replied "yes," took the underwear from Mommy, and happily went back to sleep. The next day he insisted on carrying the underwear around and eventually wanted to wear it over his diaper.
Last night Alex asked for the first time to potty in the "big toilet." And, in fact, he ended up going twice before bed time! He was so proud of himself and called Nana and Poppy to let them know. He got a star on his star chart and tried a few times to go today, although without the success of last night. We are encouraging his "can do" attitude, though, and hope that this means Alex is well on his way to joining Ari in the "no diaper" club. As it is right now, Ari tells us every time we get a shipment of diapers that they are not for her. She explains that diapers are for "babies and boys." Hopefully soon they will only be for the babies in our house!
