Thursday

Thursday morning, Mommy and Daddy woke up at 3:45 a.m. to catch our plane to JFK for their transfer to St. Martin. We had a three-hour layover in JFK during which time they called for an update on all three kids and were very relieved to hear that they were all doing exceptionally well. SO well, in fact, that Kira was still sleeping at 8:00 a.m. and Alex and Ari had slept until 7:30 a.m., with Alex getting up just once in the middle of the night but going back to sleep after Nana reassured him that everything was OK. Of course all of the kids sleep late when they're with their grandparents- that never happens at home!

After a long day of travel, Mommy and Daddy finally arrived to St. Martin at 3:20 p.m. and took a cab to the ferry to Anguilla. The cab ride from the airport to the ferry reminded Mommy and Daddy we were in the Caribbean-- the cab driver made a quick stop to pick something up and one of the other people in the cab (it was actually a van that could carry many people) jumped out and went to the nearby outdoor bar and got a beer for the ride! Once at the ferry, we boarded quickly for a short (20 minute) ride to Anguilla, where we went through customs and were greeted by a staff member from our resort, Cap Juluca, and put into another cab for the short ride to the resort. We found out that the end of the island's largest annual festivals, Carnival, was the following day, and when we expressed an interest in finding out about the festivities, our very friendly cab driver made a quick stop by her house to pick us up a program!
The view from our ferry leaving St. Martin
As Anguilla is an island that is only 16 miles long by 3 miles wide, it didn't take long at all to get us to Cap Juluca. At registration we met another couple (who we had seen on the ferry) who also happened to be returning to Cap Juluca to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary. We were shown to our room, which was in the villa next door to the one we stayed in 10 years ago, and had just enough time to shower and get dressed for dinner at Pimm's, one of the resort's three restaurants. Dinner was outstanding- Mommy had tuna tartare to start and salmon for dinner, and Daddy had a the tasting menu, which was a scallop appetizer followed by a salad and then tenderloin for dinner. We shared the best soufle either of us have ever had- a praline soufle with a vanilla sauce. We also brought along the champagne left in our room as a welcome gift to enjoy at dinner. Sitting next to the water, looking out at the moon reflecting on the ocean, we certainly couldn't complain!Meanwhile, Alex, Ari and Kira seemed to be having a good time back at home. Email reports told us that Kira had enjoyed a trip to the grocery store with Miri where she charmed all of the people in the store. Aunt Lori sent us pictures of Ari and Alex enjoying their day with Nana, Poppy and Ozzie- Aunt Lori reported that Ari already had her fingernails and toe nails painted by Nana and that Poppy was teaching them to play piano and read sheet music.
