Ups and Downs

It seems like our posts are coming much less frequently these days, but that's only because life has been very hectic around here, for both good and, unfortunately, a little sad, as well.

Backing up all the way to Thanksgiving weekend (and the "ups" of the week), Saturday afternoon Aunt Lori, Uncle Sam and Ozzie came over to babysit Alex, Ari and Kira while Mommy and Daddy and six of their friends enjoyed a wine tasting at Cygnus Wine Cellars, a prize Mommy won for winning her age group in a recent 10K. While Mommy, Daddy and their friends were enjoying wine, cheese and adult company, followed by a nice dinner, Ari, Alex and Kira played with their Aunt, Uncle and canine cousin and were then joined by Miri and Opa for the rest of the evening. Mommy and Daddy really enjoyed a night out with their friends, and the kids equally enjoyed an afternoon and evening with doting relatives.
This past week Mommy tried to keep us all busy as Daddy took a business trip to Atlanta. Mommy and Kira met up with Melissa and Ella to try out a Stroller Strides class, we all went to our neighborhood playgroup, Kira and Mommy went to music class, and we met up with some friends at the library's Discovery Room. We also played with neighborhood friends Jason and Mitchell and Justin and Andrew. Before we knew it, the week was over and Daddy was home. Friday night we had Ari and Alex's school friend, Rian, and his parents and baby brother over for Shabbat dinner. It was so nice to see the kids playing together so nicely (the class really gets along well) and for the grown-ups to have a chance to talk while the kids played.

Unfortunately, in the midst of this fun week, Mommy got some terrible news that a triplet family in our Parents of Multiples club had suffered a terrible house fire, in which the three boys were badly injured. Mommy spent a lot of time this week trying to help coordinate efforts to support the family and keeping the family in her thoughts. It was heartening to see the overwhelming outpouring of support for the family, though, and it made Mommy very proud to be President of our Parents of Multiples Club. We encourage anyone who would like to help the family to visit http://www.petrucellirelieffund.com/. The boys are still in critical condition, so we are hoping everyone will continue to keep them in their thoughts.

Today Ari and Alex has a birthday party for their school friend Laylie, where they had a chance to play with all of their school friends outside of the classroom. It was a very fun party with a carnival theme, complete with popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, balloon animals and carnival games. Of course Mommy didn't bring her camera, but Laylie's parents took lots of pictures so hopefully we'll get to see some of those.

Later in the day, we hosted our monthly neighborhood family get-together. We all had a very good time and the kids (all 11 of them) were enjoying playing around the house, including in the basement ball pit, until little Kira quickly snuck away and, probably wanting to join in the fun downstairs, ended up falling all the way down the hardwood basement stairs. Luckily, she seems to be fine and after the shock of the fall wore off (and Mommy calmed herself down a bit) she was back to her normal self, even scooting back over to the (closed) basement door to see if she could get downstairs again. Of course, luck being as it is, just like when Kira had RSV a year ago, Dr. Miri was on her way out of the country! Dr. "Auntie" Melissa was going to come over to check on Kira, but once we realized she was back to her normal self, advised us to just keep an eye on her but assured us she should be just fine. Mommy probably has a few more grey hairs, and Kira is sleeping in our bed tonight just so Mommy can keep an eye on her, but hopefully it will all be just a good story to tell her when she gets older...and a great lesson for Ari and Alex on why we DO NOT play around the stairs. Here are some pictures from before the fateful fall:

So it's been quite a week of ups and downs, but we're all just grateful that we're all OK and we continue to hope that the Petrucelli boys have a quick and smooth recovery.
