Kira had her first check-up at the pediatrician's office today, and we're happy to report she got a clean bill of health and, more importantly, is gaining weight nicely. She weighed 7 lbs. 12.7 ounces at birth, 7 lbs. 8.8 ounces on Day 1, 7 lbs. 3.7 ounces on Day 2 (babies are expected to lose up to 10% of their birth weight in the first days, so this was no big surprise), and then went UP to 7 lbs. 4.5 ounces on Day 3. This was actually a pleasant surprise, as the doctor at the hospital explained that babies typically don't start to regain their weight that quickly. It was also a big relief for Mommy, who is nursing Kira this time (she didn't nurse the twins). Today at the doctor's office (Day 5), Kira weighed 7 lbs. 7 ounces, so up even from her discharge weight. Good news again!
Nana accompanied Mommy to Kira's first appointment today as Daddy stayed home with Alex and Ari. Here are some pictures from our appointment:
Despite Ari's look in that last picture, she and Alex are actually very much enjoying being big siblings. Every time Kira cries, Alex asks "hungry?" and they both like to hold the new baby (with Mommy or Daddy's help, of course). We're already looking forward to the three of them being the best of friends!

I am glad the first checkup went well and that Kira is gaining weight nicely. She looks so tiny compared to Ari and Alex. I bet it feels that way too!
